Nestled on the bustling Municipal Wharf 2 in Monterey, Loulou's Griddle In the Middle is a charming breakfast and seafood haven that perfectly captures the essence of a quintessential coastal dining experience. This cozy gem may be petite in size, but it more than makes up for it with its generous portions and vibrant flavors that keep locals and visitors alike coming back for more.
The cuisine here is a delightful blend of classic breakfast staples and fresh-from-the-sea specialties. Whether you're craving the indulgent Hubcap Chocolate Chip Pancakes—towering, fluffy, and bursting with melty chocolate chips—or the savory Seafood Reef Rider Omelette packed with succulent shrimp, crab, and Monterey jack cheese, every dish is crafted with care to satisfy every palate. The Clam Chowder in a Sourdough Bread Bowl is a comforting must-try, with rich, creamy broth brimming with tender clams, perfectly complemented by the tangy, crusty bread. For those with a sweet tooth, the Sourdough French Toast and Cinnaman French Toast offer a beautifully balanced harmony of spices and sweetness, while the Berry Chunky French Toast brings fresh, vibrant bursts of berry flavor with every bite.
Dining at Loulou’s is more than just a meal—it’s a warm, heartfelt experience. The intimate setting creates a genuinely personable atmosphere where the friendly staff become part of the charm, offering attentive service with a smile. Yes, the space is cozy—a bit snug inside and sometimes bustling enough to require a wait—but this only adds to the authentic, community feel of the place. Many guests find the shared experience around their immense “hubcap” pancakes not just economical but downright fun, often splitting an enormous portion among four hungry diners.
There’s something incredibly comforting about pulling up a seat at the bar, chatting with the energetic team, and soaking in the lively seaside vibe that permeates the restaurant. The food arrives hot, fresh, and beautifully plated, with each bite capturing the essence of Monterey’s rich culinary heritage. Whether it’s the perfectly sautéed spinach in the Pop Eye Jack Omelette or the crispy, golden fried calamari that pairs wonderfully with a cup of robust coffee, Loulou's crafts dishes that delight all the senses.
Beyond food, the location itself is unbeatable—right on the pier, with views that remind you of Monterey’s rich maritime culture. It’s a spot where both tourists and locals find common ground over a shared love of hearty breakfasts and flavorful seafood dishes. If you’re someone who appreciates good food served with genuine smiles in a setting that hums with life and authenticity, Loulou's Griddle In the Middle is a wholehearted recommendation. Prepare for oversized pancakes, unforgettable omelettes, and a brunch that feels like a warm, savory hug from the sea.
Great breakfast / brunch spot. Pretty small though, so you will definitely have a wait of 30 mins or more and the inside seating is a bit cramped. The staff is super nice though and are part of the experience. The pancakes are huge and the portion you get is honestly enough to be split between 4 people. So eating here can be really affordable if you're okay with sharing. Omelettes are delicious and everything is made right in front of you. Definitely recommend a visit.
Tiny place with BIG portions! Get the hubcap pancake with strawberries. So so good and made with fresh California strawberries. The mimosas are great, the staff is fun, the location is ideal. Highly recommend. While it may be "touristy" locals love it, too, and it is worth the wait!
Biggest pancakes EVER and so cute. Right on the pier, Loulou’s Griddle in the Middle is a quaint, personable place for a meal. Why the 4 stars and not 5... only because we had a group of 6 and we couldn’t fit at the same table, because the restaurant is quite small. Other than that it was a great value for the food, and it really did feel friendly and casual. We would definitely go there again!
Cute lil restaurant! The staff were so friendly. It’s a really small restaurant! So be patient if there isn’t seating! But there was outside and indoor seating as well. The breakfast was very good! The french toast was excellent. Really good price for the meal! It was easy parking for us due to it being a weekday and early in the morning.
This is hands down the best breakfast in Monterey. If you ever have the opportunity to sit at the bar you must, it’s so fun and everyone who works here, I simply can’t even put into words how amazing they are. My son loves the huge hubcap pancakes and he begs us the come back any chance we get. They offer mimosas and everything on the menu is delicious. Another favorite is the Cinnamon French Toast and the fresh basil in an omelette is now a new necessity in my husband’s omelette. They are usually busy and have a wait but I promise you they are definitely worth the wait. We even came back 2 days in a row and this will always be where we stop for an amazing bite.
Fantastic service with amazing food. The restaurant is small but there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The portions are insanely huge so be careful how much you order, and the quality of the dishes is incredible so you won't be disappointed with anything you get. We ordered the halibut fish and chips (a daily special) which came with fries and salad, and a monster burger with cheddar cheese and bacon. I would highly recommend this place as a stop for lunch.
Oh. Goodness! We travel a lot and we are from Louisiana so we judge food differently. Lou Lou’s is legit delicious! Fresh food, awesome atmosphere and fun/friendly staff! I had an omelette, sourdough toast and those potatoes! Hubby had their burrito which was huge and amazing. We both now have lunch, too because the servings were so large!
